The monograph documents the uncompromising, Arte Povera and Conceptual Art-influenced work of artist Wolfgang Ernst, who was born in 1942 in Vienna. Ernst withdrew from the art world after his first solo exhibitions at the illustrious Galerie nächst St. Stephan (1970 and 1973), at that time the center of the Austrian avant-garde scene, though he continued his creative activity. Ernst’s oeuvre, which includes objects, graphic art, acoustic work and texts, is committed to exploring a purist aesthetic and existential questions. The use of writing plays a central role in his work.
